Storm Falls to Panthers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they were swept by Ohio Dominican.  They fell in game one, 4-3 and dropped game two, 10-9.  

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, to take a 1-0 lead.  The Storm battled back and tied the game in the bottom of the second inning when Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) singled and drove home Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) who reached on an error earlier in the inning.  Lake Erie tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.  Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) gave the Storm the lead with a double down the right field line that plated Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood).  S. Karako advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball to give the Storm a 3-1 lead.  The Panthers scored a run in the sixth and a pair of runs in the seventh to take a 4-3 lead.  The Storm was unable to score, and fell 4-3 in game one.    

After a scoreless first inning the Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) singled and drove in both Darrian Yanek (Youngstown, Ohio / South Range) and Kaylie Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch).  Ohio Dominican put up a four run third inning and took a 4-2 lead.  Lake Erie tied the game in the top of the fourth when Ka. Peacock doubled down the right field line and plated both Lewis and Birtley.  The Storm regained the lead when Kr. Peacock doubled to left field and scored Ka. Peacock.  The Panthers answered right back with four runs in fourth and took an 8-5 advantage.  Yanek cut into the Panther lead with a double that scored both Hajnosz and Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic), to make the score 8-7 in favor of Ohio Dominican.  Later in the inning the Storm tied the game when Ka. Peacock singled home Yanek.  Ka. Peacock gave the Storm the lead as she came around to score on a passed ball, to give Lake Erie a 9-8 lead in the fifth.  The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, 10-9.

Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (April 12) when they travel to take on Malone University.
