Storm Split Day 4 Double Header

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lake Erie College softball team split their double header against Cedarville, and Felician today (March 5th).  The Storm is now 4-4 overall on the season.

Cedarville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, before the Storm answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first when Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) singled and scored Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic).  Cedarville scored one in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead.  Cedarville added two more in the fifth inning on a two run homerun.  The Storm fell 4-1 to Cedarville. 

The Storm jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first when Hajnosz singled home S. Karako.  Lake Erie added two more when Hannah Shevenell hit a two run home run to drive in Jessacca Gironda (Kent State).  Felician scratched across a run in the second and the fourth to make the score, 3-2 in favor of the Storm.  Felician took the lead in the fourth, 4-3.  The Storm battled back in the fifth to take the lead.  Gironda tripled and later scored off of a Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) double.  Valvoda crossed the plate off of a Hajnosz single to give the Storm a 5-4 advantage.  Felician took the lead in the fifth with a two run homerun. The Storm scored seven in the seventh when Gironda hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia).  Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion) pinch hit in and drove in both Hajnosz, and Amber Dowen (New Lyne, Ohio / Pymatuning Valley).  Kaylie Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch) doubled and drove in Shevenell and Urgo came around to score. S. Karako singled and plated Lewis, and Darrian Yanek (Youngstown, Ohio / South Range), to make the score 12-6. The storm gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh but won, 12-7.

Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio / Brookside) got the win in game two, and is now 3-2 on the season.  Ondercin had eight strike outs, only two walks, and five earned runs combined in both games.     

Lake Erie will wrap up their games in Florida tomorrow when they take on West Liberty and Millersville at 9 and 11 A.M. respectively.
