Storm Wins Big in Game 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lake Erie College softball team opened the 2015 campaign as they split their opening day double header against  Assumption, and Felician today (March 1st).  The Storm is now 1-1 on the season. 

Lake Erie was defeated in their first game of the day by Assumption, 11-0 in five innings. 

The Storm bounced back from a loss earlier in the day to beat Felician, 10-1.  The Storm took an early lead in the first inning when Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled to the right center gap that scored Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) and Jessacca Gironda (Kent State).  The Storm added to the lead in the second inning when Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) crossed the plate on a single by S. Karako to make the score 3-0.  Lake Erie continued to stretch the lead when they scored two more in the fourth.  The Storm scored when Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) stole home on a passed ball, and Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty) also scored to increase the lead to 5-0.  Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) and Valvoda crossed the plate in the fifth for Lake Erie, before Felician scored in the bottom of the inning to give the Storm a 7-1.  The Storm added three runs in the sixth off of a three run homerun by Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown), Lake Erie closed the game in the bottom of the sixth, and won 10-1. 

Katarina Davis (Independence, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) pitched for the Storm in game two, she went 4.1 innings, and allowed two hits.  Davis controlled the game for the Storm as she had four strike outs and allowed one earned run.  Kayleigh Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch) went the final 1.2 innings.  Combined they gave up six hits and one earned run.   

Lake Erie will be back in action as they take on Post, and Georgian Court, tomorrow at 1 and 3 P.M.
