Lake Erie Keeps it Close with Nationally-Ranked Wayne State

DETROIT, Mich. (April 18, 2009) - Lake Erie College hung close with No. 31 Wayne State University Saturday afternoon before eventually losing both games of the doubleheader, 6-2 and 3-0.

In the first game of the day, the hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Lake Erie responded with a two-run second inning that included singles from seniors Brittney Binko (Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy) and Katie Staats (Willoughby, Ohio/South) as well as a double by sophomore Britt'nie Bartow (Stow, Ohio/Stow). The Warriors went ahead in their at bat with two runs then added three more in the fifth. Lake Erie had five total hits with each one by a different player.

In the second game, the Storm gave up one run in each of the first three innings. The green and white had two hits - one from freshman Allison Heming (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) and the other from sophomore Lorin Koch (Milan, Ohio/Edison).

Lake Erie (5-30) concludes the season at Hillsdale on Saturday.
