Storm Victorious Over Cardinals

WHEELING, W.V. – The 10th ranked Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was in action today as they defeated Wheeling Jesuit, 21-9.  With the win the Storm improves to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in Great Midwest action.   

The Storm opened the scoring two minutes into the game when John Kezerian (Melrose, Mass. / Malden Catholic) found the back of the net to give the Storm a 1-0 edge.  30 seconds later Mitchell Stokes (New Westminster, B.C. / New Westminster Secondary) gave Lake Erie a 2-0 edge as he scored an unassisted goal.  Two minutes later, the Storm added to their lead when Micah Daigle (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) scored an unassisted goal.  Lake Erie added a fourth consecutive goal when Edmond Renaud (Carlisle, Ont. / Waterdown District / Pfeiffer) found the back of the net with just over eight minutes remaining in the quarter.  Less than a minute later, the Storm grabbed a 5-0 lead when Austin Bishop (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) scored off a feed from Lucas Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg).  The final seven minutes were scoreless and the Storm entered the second quarter ahead, 5-0. 

The Storm momentum carried over to the second quarter when Kezerian scored off a feed from Shafer about a minute into the quarter.  A little over four minutes later, Lake Erie added a seventh straight goal when Shafer scored off a feed from Daigle.  A minute and a half later the Storm grabbed an 8-0 advantage when Shafer scored an unassisted goal.  The Cardinals cut into the Storm lead with a pair of goals and made the score, 8-2 in favor of Lake Erie.  The Storm responded with a goal by Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) and took a 9-2 edge into the intermission. 

The Cardinals came out of the locker room ready to play as they scored back to back goals to open the second half.  The Storm answered back with a goal from Renaud, which was assisted by Patrick Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy), and a goal from Mack Fall (Morgantown, W. Va. / University), to give the Storm an 11-4 advantage.  A minute later, Lake Erie added a man up goal as Shafer scored off an assist from Stokes.  Two minutes later, the Storm made the score, 13-4 when Shafer found the back of the net off a feed from Renaud.  The Cardinals scored but the Storm quickly answered with a goal from Renaud with just under four remaining in the third quarter.  With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter Kezerian scored off a feed from Shafer to give the Storm a 15-5 edge. 

The Storm opened the fourth quarter with four straight goals, to give Lake Erie a 19-5 edge.  Renaud scored three of the goals and Tommy Bischel (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville North) scored the other goal.  Wheeling answered with a goal before the Storm tacked on a pair of goals by Bret Swan (Acton City, Ont. / Halton Hills) and Hunter Hays (Plain City, Ohio / St. Francis DeSales).  The Cardinals ended the game with a pair of goals, but the Storm won 21-9.    

The Storm was led by Renaud as he scored six goals and had an assist in the game.  Shafer added four goals, and four assists in the game.  Kezerian added three goals to the Storm's offensive performance.  Reed Hnidy (Saskatoon, Sask. / Genesee CC) led the Storm defense as he caused four turnovers and had a pair of groundballs. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (April 11) when they travel to take on Ohio Valley, with the game set to start at 4 p.m.
