Storm Falls in Close Battle with Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa.  – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Edinboro, 70-66.

The game started with both teams scoring on their opening possessions of the game.  The bucket for the Storm came from a Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) layup to tie the game at two points apiece.  The first half was a back and forth battle as the game was tied four times in the opening ten minutes of the game.  The Fighting Scots owned the lead until the Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) made a layup off an assist from Harrison Riggs (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's), to give the Storm a 17-15 edge with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.  Lake Erie was able to stretch their lead to four when Michael Morris (New Palestine, Ind. / New Palestine) hit a jumper, but Edinboro answered with a 5-0 run to regain a 24-23 advantage with just over four minutes remaining in the first half.  Over the remaining four minutes the Storm outscored the Fighting Scots, 10-5 and Lake Erie entered the intermission with a 33-29 lead.  The late first half charge was led by Ennis Thomas (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) as he had four of the 10 points and also assisted on one of the baskets.

The Storm continued their strong play out of the locker room as they were able to stretch out their lead early in the second half.  Over the first seven minutes of the second half Lake Erie was able to gain a nine point advantage.  The strong play was led by Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) as he hit a three pointer and converted a layup during the seven minute stretch.  The Storm start forced a Fighting Scots timeout with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game.  Out of the timeout Edinboro answered with an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the second half.  Late in the second half, the Storm went on a quick 5-0 run to cut the Fighting Scots lead to 67-66 with six seconds remaining in the game.  The run was highlighted by Morris as he had a steal and hit a jumper in transition.  The Storm comeback fell short as they fell to Edinboro, 70-66.

The Storm was led by Kynard as he had a team high 16 points and eight rebounds.  Morris added 10 points off the bench for the Storm.  The Storm bench provided solid minutes in the game as they contributed 34 points in the game.

Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Saturday (Dec. 2) when they host Daemen College with the game set to tip off at 3 p.m.
