Storm Drops Conference Battle to Tiffin

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Tiffin University, 73-69. 

The Dragons opened the game on a 12-4 run that spanned the first five minutes of the game.  After the timeout the Storm responded with a 9-2 run that saw the Dragons lead shrink to 19-16.  The run was highlighted by Ennis Thomas (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) as he had a dunk and a three pointer.  After a bucket by Tiffin, Lake Erie went on a 5-0 run and took a 22-21 lead on a three pointer by Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary).  For the next three minutes the game was a back and forth battle as the lead changed hands five times in three minutes.  With less than 4 minutes to play in the half the Storm stretched their lead to eight before the Dragons ended the half on a 10-0 run and took a 38-36 lead into the intermission. 

At the half the Storm was led by Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) as he had 10 points and an assist.  Wells added seven points and grabbed three rebounds in the half. 

After trading baskets for the first three possessions of the second half the Dragons went on an 8-0 run and took a 50-41 edge with just over 16 minutes remaining in the game.  The middle part of the second half was a back and forth battle as the Storm would not let the Dragons pull away.  With just under six minutes to play in the game the Storm went on a 5-0 run and cut the lead to two.  Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) hit a three pointer and a layup on back to back possessions to cut the Tiffin lead to 62-60.  The Storm continued to fight when a Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) layup made it a one point Dragons lead with just under two minutes remaining in the game.  The Storm was unable to complete the comeback and fell, 73-69. 

The Storm was led by Kynard as he had a team high 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds.  Howard also added 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Wells also had double-digit points as he had 12 points and four rebounds. 

Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Saturday (Feb. 4) when they host Walsh University with the game set to tip at 3 p.m.
