Storm Unable to Pester Pioneers into a Loss

GLENVILLE, W.Va. (January 4, 2009) - Lake Erie College took to the road Sunday afternoon, but was never able to make itself at home, losing to Glenville State College, 82-49. The Storm struggled to put the ball in the hoop, making just 30-percent of its 54 field goal attempts, while the host Pioneers connected on 52-percent of their 67 attempts.

Glenville State held a 45-19 advantage at the break after shooting 58-percent from the floor. Lake Erie made only seven field goals in the first period, with no player in the team's starting lineup making more than two.

Lake Erie did put together a better second half, scoring 11 more points than it did in the opening half, but was still outscored in the 20 minutes, 37-30. Leading scorers for Lake Erie included senior forwards Rick Leasure (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) and Matt Moore (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) with nine points apiece. Senior forward Derrick Thornton (University Heights, Ohio/Lutheran East) scored eight points and had a team-high of four rebounds. Freshman Matt Grendel (Independence, Ohio/Independence) also had four of the team's 28 total rebounds. 

Lake Erie (5-12) remains on the road Wednesday at California University of Pennsylvania at 8 p.m. The teams met earlier in the season in Storm territory with Lake Erie earning an easy victory, 50-46 on Nov. 22.
