Lake Erie Football Selected Eighth in G-MAC Preseason Coaches Poll

INDIANAPOLIS- The Lake Erie football team has been picked eighth in the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Coaches Preseason Poll presented by Under Armour. The Storm received 15 points in the voting.

On the offensive side of the ball, Antwan Harris will return at running back for the Storm. Last season he led the team with 517 yards rushing on 114 carries, averaging 4.5 yards per carry, and finished with two TDs. His season earned him a spot on the G-MAC Second Team.

On defense, the Storm returns Thomas Covington, Jason Rogers, and Justin Growel. Covington appeared in all 10 games of the 2017 season. He led the Storm in tackles (75), as well as forced fumbles (3), and had an interception. Covington finished seventh in the conference in tackles.

Rogers had 49 tackles in the 2017 season which secured him with the third most tackles on the Storm, nine of which were for a loss. He also led the team in sacks (6.5), and also had an interception.

Growel appeared in seven games as a defensive lineman for the Storm. He made 38 tackles, of which nine were for a loss, and had 2.5 sacks.

Covington and Rogers were both named Second Team All-Great Midwest on the defensive side of the ball. Growel was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Honorable Mention.

The Storm football team will kickoff the 2018-2019 season on home turf against Edinboro on Saturday, September 1 at 12pm.
