Storm Defeated by Oilers

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College football team was in action today as they were defeated by the University of Findlay, 63-3.

The Oilers jumped out to an early lead with 21 unanswered points in the first quarter.  The Storm got on the scoreboard with just over six minutes remaining in the opening quarter when Michael Muzic (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) converted on a 40 yard field goal, to make the score 21-3 Oilers.  Findlay responded on their ensuing possession with a touchdown to take a 28-3 advantage, and the Storm entered the second quarter trailing, 28-3.

On the Oilers opening drive of the second quarter the Storm defense stepped up and forced a turnover.  Josh Weaver (Hamilton, Ohio / Fairfield) forced a fumble and the ball was recovered by Jaden King (Garner, North Carolina / Middle Creek).  Later in the quarter, Findlay tacked on 13 unanswered points and entered the intermission ahead on the scoreboard.

The third quarter was a defensive battle for 13 minutes before the Oilers tacked on a late rushing touchdown, to enter the fourth quarter ahead on the scoreboard. 

Findlay finished the fourth quarter strong with a pair of touchdowns and won, 63-3.    

Offensively the Storm was led by Michael Swanson (Sylvania, Ohio / Toledo St. Francsis De Sales) as he carried the ball seven times for a total of 42 yards, which is a six yard per carry average.  The defense was led by King as he had a game high nine tackles, and a fumble recovery.  Desmond Stanley (Macedonia, Ohio / Nordonia) pitched in with eight tackles, including one tackle for a loss. 

Lake Erie will have an off week, before returning to action on Saturday (Oct. 21) when they host Malone University with the game set to kickoff at 7 p.m.
