Three Baseball Players Named All-Conference

MASON, Ohio – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced the 2018 All-Conference Honorees in conjunction with the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at Prasco Park this week.

Right-hander David Lemasters (Cortland, Ohio / Lakeview) was named Second-Team All-Conference while infielder Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) and right-hander Michael Stryffeler (Sagamore Hills, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) were named Honorable Mention All-Conference.

Lemasters finished the 2018 season with a 3-3 record in 11 starts, compiling a team-low earned run average of 3.30. He pitched 60 innings while allowing 48 hits, 32 runs, 22 earned runs and 26 walks. He led the Storm and was tied for sixth in the G-MAC with 72 strikeouts. Over the course of the season, he made five quality starts with six or more innings and less than three runs allowed. Lemasters had three games with ten strikeouts and seven starts with two runs allowed or less.

Birchmeier was at the top of many offensive categories for the Storm this season through 45 games played. He led the team with 11 doubles, 32 RBI and nine hit-by-pitches. He placed second in batting average (.311), runs (31), hits (50), and homeruns (six). He had an on-base percentage of .391 and a slugging percentage of .528. He had 16 multi-hit games, including three games with three hits. He scored multiple runs in eight games. Late in the season, Birchmeier appeared at nine positions in one game against Gannon.

Stryffeler appeared in 13 games for the Storm with nine starts, spanning 57 innings pitched. He finished the 2018 season with a 4-5 record and an earned run average of 6.00. He threw 57 innings, the second most on the staff, with 55 hits, 42 runs, 38 earned runs, 26 walks and 70 strikeouts. The 70 strikeouts were second to Lemasters on the team. He had three quality starts with six or more innings and less than three runs allowed, including seven shutout innings against Alderson Broaddus. Stryffeler had three games of ten or more strikeouts, including 13 against Alderson Broaddus. He was named Great Midwest North Division Pitcher of the Week once this season last month.

The Storm finished with a 17-27-1 overall record and a 14-13 G-MAC mark in their first season in the G-MAC.
