Gannon and Notre Dame Up Next for Storm Baseball (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team will take to the road for two nonconference games against regional opponents. The Storm will play the Gannon University Golden Knights on Tuesday (April 24) at 2:30 in a single game. Then, the Storm will face the Notre Dame College Falcons on Wednesday (April 25) at Sprenger Stadium at 2:30 PM in a single, 9-inning game.

"These two games will be a couple good chances for us to fine tune some things before the stretch run," said Storm head coach Cameron Castro. "It's always great to be able to compete against some teams in the area outside the conference."

Storm Report: Lake Erie is 13-20-1 overall this season and 11-10 in the G-MAC. The Storm dropped two of three games from the University of Findlay over the weekend. Findlay won Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 2-0 and 4-3 before Lake Erie avoided the sweep with a 4-0 win on Sunday (April 22) behind Ryan Middendorf's (West Chester, Ohio / Lakota East) near complete game shutout. Middendorf went 8.2 innings with four hits and three walks allowed before he gave way to Michael Stryffeler (Sagamore Hills, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) for the one out save. Trace Peterson (Medina, Ohio / Medina), the team leader in batting average (.316) had three hits and two RBI in the win.

Opposition Position: Gannon is 23-14 overall this season after a 2-2 weekend against the Vulcans of California University of Pennsylvania. The Golden Knights swept the Saturday slate before being swept on Sunday. Nate Cardy leads the team in batting average (.396), hits (44), triples (3) and RBI (34). Notre Dame is 15-25 overall in the 2018 season. The Falcons completed a four-game sweep of the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals over the weekend. Drake May leads the Falcons with a .307 batting average, 39 hits and 20 RBI.

Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will resume Great Midwest play with a three game series at Hillsdale on Saturday (April 28).
