Raley Raley good night in Xenia

XENIA, Ohio. – Junior right-hander Brad Raley pitched a complete game, and the Storm offense continued a recent surge, as Lake Erie downed the Tiffin Dragons, 9-2, in day one at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

The hurler's younger brother, Lucas, was in the middle of Lake Erie's nine-run support for its starter. The freshman left fielder reached base four times and scored three runs. Shortstop Sean Mathews added three hits and third baseman Zack DeCamp added three RBIs on a night that saw LEC go 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position while TU went 2-for-17.

Brad Raley scattered nine hits and yielded 13 ground-ball outs in a game that was tight until Lake Erie (29-18) hung a five-spot in the bottom of the sixth.

The Storm got two runs off of Tiffin (17-32) in the bottom of the first. The Dragons would halve that lead before Lake Erie added two on Raley and DeCamp RBIs in the bottom of the fifth. Then, with Tiffin within two (4-2) in the bottom of the sixth, LEC sent 11 to the plate, scoring five and giving Brad Raley a big cushion to work with.

Raley finished the game, working out of numerous jams in the process. The complete game marked his sixth of the season.

Lake Erie will now face Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) on Friday. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
