Cacique Named to Daktronics All-Region Team

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College senior Brayan Cacique (Caracas, Venezuela/John I. Leonard/Lakeland C.C.) was selected to the 2012 Daktronics, Inc. Division II Baseball All-Midwest Region First Team announced Thursday (May 17).  The team is selected by the region's sports information directors.

Also a first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selection, Cacique helped lead the Storm to its most successful season ever.  Lake Erie finished with a 27-26 overall record and placed third during the regular season with a 22-14 GLIAC mark and qualified for the GLIAC Tournament for the first time.

Chosen for both teams as a second baseman Cacique led the Storm in home runs (5), RBI (38), doubles (12), total bases (86), slugging percentage (.544) and on-base percentage (.455) while setting a school single-season record for walks (31).  He also was second in batting (.348), hits (55), runs (32), triples (2) and finished third in stolen bases (10).

As one of 15 first-team All-Region selections, Cacique will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America Consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Friday, May 25.
