LEC Athletics to Host "Social Media Saturday" Feb. 9

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College Department of Athletics will sponsor its first “Social Media Saturday” Feb. 9 surrounding a full day of winter sports action from 10 a.m. until approximately 9 p.m. Students and fans of the Storm will have the opportunity to interact with the Department of Athletics, follow all of the action and win prizes via various forms of social media.

There is a full slate of games that day at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center, starting with the wrestling team hosting the Lake Erie Quad II at 10 a.m.  The Storm will face three opponents – Mercyhurst University, the University of Findaly and King College  - throughout the morning and early afternoon.  Following that, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will host a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader against Walsh University beginning at 5 p.m.

All the events will be broadcast online live through the Storm’s UStream Channel on LakeErieStorm.com and Facebook.  Plus, Sports Information & Marketing student interns will be live tweeting, blogging and chatting throughout the day at all events.

Additionally, there will be live updates of the swimming teams competing at the GLIAC Championships in Canton throughout the day.

During the week leading up to “Social Media Saturday” fans will have the opportunity to submit questions for selected Storm coaches and staff members that will be answered on the Storm YouTube channel throughout the day Saturday.

Fans who wish to submit questions through Twitter should use the hashtag #askstormy.

Both at the events and online, fans will have the opportunity for giveaways on the official Storm Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds by answering questions or posting updates and pictures.  The Twitter contests will feature a variety of hashtags in addition to the popular #RageOn that has been a staple of the Storm’s social media presence to date. Prizes include gift certificates to local eateries like the Sidewalk Café, Qdoba and Harry Buffalo, as well as a prize from the new online team fan shop at Shop.LakeErieStorm.com.

Finally, a Facebook contest will be unveiled on Monday, Feb. 4, through the remainder of the month of February where a lucky and talented Storm fan could win a $50 iTunes gift card.
