PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College Athletic Director Reid Guarnieri announced a pair of changes to the athletic department staff Friday (July 15).
Ryan Scanlan was named Director of Sport Operations while Molly Hoffman was named Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).
Scanlan previously served as the Sport Operations Graduate Assistant at Lake Erie during the 2015-16 year.
"I am excited to transition into a full-time athletic administrator within the Lake Erie Athletic Department," remarked Scanlan. "I plan on using my experiences as a former student-athlete, SAAC President and life experiences to enhance the student-athlete experience at Lake Erie in all aspects of my responsibilities as the Director of Sport Operations."
Scanlan came to Lake Erie after graduating from Chowan University, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. He was a men's soccer student-athlete, finding success both on and off the field. Scanlan received numerous honors during his career including the Character Award in Fall 2011, Captainship in Fall 2012 and NJCAA Region 20 D-III All-Star Team. In the fall of 2014 Scanlan helped lead the team most successful record for the Hawks as a member of NCAA (12-8).
He interned with the United States Census Bureau Fitness Center in Washington, DC during the summer of 2014 where he designed exercise programs, assisted with daily operations of facility, comprehensive fitness assessment, health consultations, customer care, health promotion while teaching group exercise classes ranging from H.I.T.T. (High Intensity Interval Training), Sports Conditioning, Ab and Bootcamps.
"Ryan is incredibly deserving of this promotion to Director, having already proven he is a very capable, dependable person and tireless worker," said Guarnieri. "On an interim basis last year, when he was awarded with our Best Employee Award, he very admirably performed the same duties for which he now bears the primary responsibility. I think this will be a wonderful opportunity for him to really grow as an athletics professional and Lake Erie will certainly reap the benefit of that."
Hoffman will continue to serve as the Head Athletic Trainer in addition to the responsibilities that come with the SWA position.
"I am very honored and humbled to be named SWA," said Hoffman. "This title comes with great responsibility and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that it possesses."
Hoffman joined the Lake Erie College Department of Athletics in the summer of 2009. She was promoted to Head Athletic Trainer in February, 2016. Hoffman aids in the supervision, instruction and participation of the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all 17 Storm varsity sports. She is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association and the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association (OATA).
A 2007 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College with a bachelor's degree in athletic training and exercise science, Hoffman was an All-Ohio Athletic Conference softball player for the Yellow Jackets.
"Molly, who also has a Best Employee Award to her credit, has been one of the most loyal and admired individuals in our Storm family for years," remarked Guarnieri. "Her dedication to the success of the program is to be commended and in this new capacity, I fully expect her to provide even more value to our operation. We are fortunate that our highly appreciated and recently enhanced relationship with University Hospitals may provide Molly with the opportunity to take on this very important role."
